Turbine insulation and fabric expansion joints

What we provide

We insulate turbines and their accessories using removable insulation blankets and manufacture fabric expansion joints. Our designs take into account the equipment’s shape, operating conditions and maintenance access requirements. Materials and layer arrangements are selected for each specific application.

WE PROVIDE:

INSULATION – INDUSTRIAL INSULATION

Insulation of turbines, turbine accessories and equipment using removable insulation blankets. Custom sewn insulation for individual applications, fabric expansion joints and other solutions.

IPK, s.r.o. Bratislava offers customers complete insulation of turbines and their accessories, with removable insulation blankets on the upper sections of turbines and selected equipment.
Advantages of removable insulation blanket systems:
  • The insulation system provides energy savings and an increase in output of up to 10% compared with conventional insulation systems.
  • The insulation blankets are flexible and fit closely to the insulated surface.
  • The design and materials of the insulation blankets minimise heat losses and thereby increase turbine output.
  • Lower installation, removal and reinstallation costs.
  • A clean working environment during handling, removal and installation of the blankets.
  • The insulation can consist of one layer or two layers, with blankets in the upper layer overlapping the joints in the lower layer.
  • The insulation blankets contain no steel framework or other components that would conduct excessive heat from the insulated surface into the surroundings and increase heat losses.

Examples of materials used to manufacture removable insulation blankets:
  • The contact face of the blanket against the turbine: fire-resistant glass fabric reinforced with stainless steel fibres, with temperature resistance up to 650 °C.
  • Intermediate layers in two-layer insulation: fire-resistant glass fabric with temperature resistance up to 600 °C.
  • The outer face of the blanket: fabric with a protective coating, fire-resistant, abrasion- and oil-resistant, washable, with temperature resistance up to 500 °C.
  • Sewing threads made of glass fibre or glass fibre reinforced with stainless steel wire, with temperature resistance up to 600 °C.
  • Fasteners (hooks, clips, washers and binding wire) made of stainless steel.
  • Materials and layer arrangements are selected as part of a complete solution for the project and the customer’s requirements.

Fabric expansion joints:
  • These provide a flexible connection between two rigid sections of process equipment, pipework or other connecting components.
  • Expansion joints are always designed to match process parameters, with solutions specific to operating temperatures, pressures, movements, chemical conditions and other requirements.
  • The range of materials available today is almost unlimited. The materials used in our expansion joints are asbestos-free.
  • The greatest advantage of fabric expansion joints is their ability to accommodate movement in several directions without creating large stress forces in the equipment.
  • Their low weight also makes fabric expansion joints easier to install.

Fabric expansion joints can be used for gaseous media at temperatures exceeding 1,000 °C and positive pressures up to +0.1 MPa. Correct installation must prevent abrasive contact between the medium and the flexible section. In addition to various fabrics, we incorporate rubber into expansion joint assemblies where required by the chemical conditions, pressures and other parameters.

In simple terms, an expansion joint consists of a protective section, a load-bearing section, uncoated fabrics, insulation materials, sealing materials and coated materials. Each part has its own purpose and properties, including strength, flexibility, temperature resistance, chemical resistance and airtightness.
